This being New Year's Eve and a Wednesday I chose a festive door from our trip earlier this year to the Eternal City. It looks festive, mysterious and cheerful - befitting for the last day of the old year and in anticipating the new.

Although not as flashy as the wrought iron gate from last week, there is something very elegant about this. Wood is very expensive now in Hungary also, and this is one way of showing affluence in a small town.
...and what a door and fence it is. If I had to guess, the owners may have something to do with the crafting of these gates and advertise in such a way. Whatever the case may be, it is stunning.
It would look a great deal nicer without graffiti but there are enough grand details to make this a beautiful sample of Budapest doorways.

The iron gates to the street were open which lead my eyes to follow inside to see this lovely entry way. It really was a temptation to see who and what was inside. Downtown little side-street tucked away in the shadows of St. Stephen's Basilica.
Full of ads and their reflections this is a pretty beaten up door but still shows its former finery.
Yes, I am cheating a bit where this door is not truly remarkable for its looks - but it is for the establishment that one finds there. Close to the Oktogon the electrical specialty store also offers a back room that serves as an internet cafe. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly but what endeared me to them were their prices - 200 HUF per hour. This may not mean much to you until I tell you that at the Oktogon the internet cafe charges 200 HUF for each TEN MINUTES. So if you are willing to walk the two blocks or take the tram down one stop - you are in for a pleasant surprise.
This elaborately carved structure with a 'roof' is what is known as a Transylvanian Gate. This gate is also located in Bajna. It is the former residence of a well known potter that had been turned into a guest house and camp for children by the Friends of Bajna.
Still in Budapest for this handsome specimen - close to the basilica, across the way from the restaurant where we had lunch.
The red sign, I believe, is a do not enter sign. The sign vertically in the window next door "Üveges, képkeret" mean windows (glass) and picture frames. This is an apartment building with some offices on the ground floor.
