Jewish Quarter Revisited

Another narrow street that used to be lined with crumbling, dark buildings. What a difference it makes to have new, straight walls lining the same street with lots of color and a lovely remodeled structure at the end of the street. Take a look at the windows on the roof of the building at the end of the street. Very often, contractors raise a new floor onto sturdy downtown buildings. Space is limited and this way they gain apartments in the downtown area despite the fact that there is no available building lot. In exchange, they remodel the building's exterior - this way, everybody wins.

Hello, Isadora,

I love to visit the old Jewish quarters in cities. Thanks for showing me this one. I think it might have been pretty noisy to live in a downstairs apartment while the new floor of rooms was installed.

Must be lots of construction going on. I am torn between admiring the new architecture and the old. Check out my blog tomorrow where I will post a pic of a lovely new office building in the area. It will be quite a contrast with the building I posted today. However, both are attractive.

I agree with Old Man Lincoln, you are doing a great job.

I like narrow streets in pictures, but hate them in traffic!

The street looks so small. The buildings look great.

This seems to be the same street you featured a couple of days ago, with the new pretty buildings. The new penthouse units under that roof must be nice and cozy in the winter. :)

I do like it when they preserve the original façade. It is inevitable that old buildings deteriorate but that doesn't mean you have to destroy history. Integrate an ancient quarter keeping the atmosphere of the place helps preserved the architectonic values of the city.

There are certainly a nice variety of styles there, Isadora.
It's a narrow street but the colours make it seem quite airy.
