Many times I've walked through Budapest being struck by something I wanted to share. Here, I do just that. What follows are glimpses along life's path that had touched my heart. Enjoy! Budapest Daily Photos recently moved to its own home. The photos here may be enlarged by clicking on them unlike BudapestResources.com website, its previous home.
The Invitation
It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”
It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

Very beautiful door. I think Hungarian people have an artistic eye and an artistic mind. But they should not put their trash just before such beautiful doors.
What Marie said. I hope that when Utazási Iroda's lease is up that place gets a classier tenant. Would also love to see that kiosk painted black with just a hint of a satin gold pinstripe delineating the some of the edges. ;D
Love those spectacular torches!
Interesting images!
There are all sorts of interesting and colorful things in this picture. What are the red things on each side of the door?
The doors look very heavy. They fit with the building.
There ARE indeed many things on that photo. The red boxes on either side of the door are post boxes (mail boxes) and those are rather charming as it is difficult to find those around town and one must go to the post office to post a letter. (Did you know Hungarian mail persons DO NOT take mail from you even if it has stamps?? We looked at each other in disbelief the first time I've asked my mailman to take my letters.)
A1 is an example of being strictly for foreigners. The properties they are selling (due to their advertising budget and visible locations) are way overpriced the Hungarian market and they still advertise 'great returns on investment'. I can't find tenants for my foreign owners - so I feel these people not only overcharge but lie to their clients about their prospects. Their investment sits there empty and rather than the tenant paying the mortgage, their investment becomes and added expense.
The green trash can is slightly less attractive, but still better than the garbage bags - which could belong to anyone! literally. These large buildings - and this is odd in itself - keep their trash cans in the entry way directly inside those awesome doors. Convenient - perhaps, but smelly and definitely a turn off to be greeted by them upon entering.
Fenix unfortunately, Andrassy is undergoig such a change and as the current tenant's leases expire, stores are closing. Shortly in their place western style or flagship stores are opening that remain empty as very few Hungarians can afford them.
we are having fun with your doors too - again, I really like this series!
Hola Isadora:
Gracias por tu amable visita y comentario.
Tienes un gran blog. Volveré a visitarte, por cierto muy buena foto con la mezcla de elementos antiguos y modernos.
Saludos.
Than doors shall it be!
cette porte en bois est vraiment très belle, avec ces deux sculptures autour
The wooden door is very beautiful, with these two around sculptures
I like the combination of the door design with the sunburst above (correct word? Above the central door) and the sculpture flanking.
i'm certainly having fun with them too! what a gorgeous door!! nice shot!
I love old doors. These are great!
