Hungarian State Opera House
This beautiful building is one of the jewels in the crown of Andrassy Blvd. Here you can read more details and see the programs.
A closer look at the facade of the building with statues of famous composers lining the upper balcony. They look as though they will step off of there and join the audience.
Another day I will show you the photo of what the Opera looks like "dressed for Christmas". 'Tis not a pretty sight.

beautiful Isadora.
Looking forward to the Xmas decorated Opera House. Can we have a peek inside as well.
"DON'T JUMP, guys! We love your music! Honest!"
Nice to see the artistically designed opera house, it's lovely.
Beautiful variety of curved and straight elements and detail in the facade. Looks as if the composers' figures also echo the two lines of pilasters (colonnades?) on the first two floors.
Great building, grat architecture. I likr photos like this one.
Lovely blog, Isadora!
I visited Budapest with my mom (on a shopping spree!) many moons ago...
Wow, the architecture there is amazing. I would never come inside.

Do you think the city will restore the exterior sometime soon?
Opera, ah, I'd love to be there!
wow, an impressive building!, nice shots!
What a beautiful building and probably more lovely inside! I love all those statues on top.
Fenix - would you believe it was sand blasted within the last 10 years? As was the parliament, and other landmark structures. The Opera also enjoyed an interior revaming - will try to get some photos although I've given the link to the Opera and they should have professional photos. Air pollution is getting better, but it is almost to the extent that by the time they removed the last of the scaffolding from one side of the parliament they could go back to the initial side and start again.
Isabella - the best bargains here are still the health and beauty industry. The city virtually sits on a hot water pond and there are medicinal waters throughout the city and even the countryside. (That's why the name spa city)
Cosmetic surgery is a big boon as the surgeons are skilled and one can recuperate in 5* luxury and still walk away paying less than in the west.
Did you know that you share your name with Isabella Zwack - the daughter of the Zwack heir (of UNICUM fame).
Thank you all for coming by and especially for the comments. Christmas decorated Opera - I've simply not had the courage to take the photo although I do by the building at least twice a day. To me it is simply horrid but then - different tastes...
I would love to explore all the little places in that building behind those windows at the top. It's a magnificent building. I'm really enjoying this blog.
