Jewish Quarter

The Jewish Quarter in Budapest's 7th district had fallen into disrepair. Some of the buildings had to be torn down because they had become unsafe. Over the past 10 years, however, there had been a drive to revitalize the area.

This drive appears to be affective as there is now lots of new construction and repair of the handsome old buildings.

There is so much color, so much simple and extravagant design in the buildings that it is a gift that there was a response to the call and the buildings for the most part will be saved.

A long term project, for sure, but so beautiful!

What a beautiful building. It deserves to be restored.

Indeed, a very beautiful building. Great photos.

Thanks for visiting my NorthBayPhoto blog. Thanks for the comments about my banner photo - it was taken last summer near the waterfront on Lake Nipissing as a storm was just breaking up.

The building is still beautiful. Is it being used because the door looks boarded up? Europe has so many archaic buildings with so much character that I would love to see in person some day.

Love the intricacies, the different colors - yes, nice to know that some things still have value. No, this particular building is not yet open to the public but hopefully that will soon change.

Thank you for coming for a visit on such a dreary day. Dark and raining all day. Cheers.

avcr8teur - hope you will make it over - check my other website for useful info: www.BudapestResources.com

I thought it was mosaic at first, but after enlarging the photos I'm thinking it isn't, can't really tell.

Color! The buildings are not as "heavy" as the others. How great to have the two cultures there. I, too, am glad they are being restored.
