Many times I've walked through Budapest being struck by something I wanted to share. Here, I do just that. What follows are glimpses along life's path that had touched my heart. Enjoy! The Invitation
It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for
and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool
for love
for your dream
for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow
if you have been opened by life’s betrayals
or have become shrivelled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain
mine or your own
without moving to hide it
or fade it
or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy
mine or your own
if you can dance with wildness
and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes
without cautioning us
to be careful
to be realistic
to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me
is true.
I want to know if you can
disappoint another
to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal
and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless
and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty
even when it is not pretty
every day.
And if you can source your own life
from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure
yours and mine
and still stand at the edge of the lake
and shout to the silver of the full moon,
“Yes.”
It doesn’t interest me
to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up
after the night of grief and despair
weary and bruised to the bone
and do what needs to be done
to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know
or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand
in the centre of the fire
with me
and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom
you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you
from the inside
when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone
with yourself
and if you truly like the company you keep
in the empty moments.

I'd hate to have to pass that every day since my dental visits are seldom a welcome experience. Not bad but not fun!

I am with Kate. I don't care to be reminded of the dentist too often. I wonder what he is doing leaving the chair in the hallway like that. I am surprised someone hasn't taken it.
I was a chair once, but I was a good chair, and they never made me stand in the corner. ;)

PS. What I like about going to the dentist: When I lay back in that chair, there is NOTHING else in the world that I am supposed to be doing. I find that relaxing. (What does that say about me?)
Kate and Dan - totally agree, despite the fact that I've a great dentist (not at the private clinic). Dan you must know Hungary! That is also almost amazing to me - that the chair is still there! They steal statues, rails, chairlift motor and cable, who knows what - for scrap metal on a regular basis. Although, I may show you the building - because of the clinic and other than residents coming in - we've a gate and a glass door at the entrance with coded or key entrance.
Wayne - that is really rare. You must be the most trusting soul there is. I trust my dentist but I think my worrying and stressing (to the point of nausea) while she works helps her succeed :)
Richard - one day! Wonder what you would have to do (professionally) to be able to make a living so you can stay for a year or so. Surely, you could not make a living teaching English in Mauritius - although a small shack along the beach would be more than enough for me for a while. :)

Those chairs bring back bad memories. Looks like the chair was delivered recently, but the good doctor is out of the office.
lfpvhi once saw one being used as a tv chair in a large minimalist home, quirky and comfortable, but I also don't like to be reminded of whining drills, eeeek.

Halfway house to the dentist
I love this photo, especially the curve on the railing/veranda in the photo. It reminds me of the apartments in Europe.
We don't have this architecture here in NYC.
I really like the architecture in this shot and your perspective looking down. Strange to see the chair. Maybe you should put some potted plants on it to add a splash of color...

And paddling in the dark is amazing, the water is like INK, and you can't see as well, so you hear more. All sorts of strange plops and gurgles, and you wonder what is it that bumped your boat! :O

The angle of the shot is great.I have a great dentist. Handsome too! Needless to say, one look at him and I don't need too much anesthetic! Tee! Hee!
Much to all our relief - when I got home yesterday evening - the chair was gone. Good thing I did not wait too long to take the shot.
