Szechenyi Ter Statues

A few days ago you've seen the grand building that houses the Gerbaud closing one end of Vorosmarty Square. This is the cluster of statutes that sits in the middle of the square. Its location (so close to the Danube) and the start of the pedestrian shopping street (Vaci u.) places it on every tourist's list - and with good reason.

Your favorite cluster? Mine is the one in the center, immediately to the left (father and daughter).

What a beautiful - and very unusual - group of statues, Isadora.
Who's the guy on top?
What's the story?
Please enlighten an ignorant Englishman.

That's such an interesting statue. I'd love to look at all of the individual characters up close. Your photo from yesterday was very funny!

Re: your comment in my blog... The Casino I picture, is not in operation. It has not been in operation in years, and years and years. It is in a beautiful old and restored building, in our City Park. Which is a museum, now.

It is only there, because it is of beautiful historic value.

Thankfully, we have no such gambling places in our city, now. Although we have to keep making sure, they do not return, in their present day version. Ugh...

Greetings and thank you for visiting with me in Hungary. :)

Fenix: Don't really have a favorite, It is the whole impact as it sits on the middle of the square and generally there are people perched on the base.

Dive: if you click on the link within the message there you can find out about the figures. :) I did that link because I'm not all that certain of all the facts either.

Olivier - for sure, it is.

Smilnsigh - unfortunately, here there are MANY casinos and the general population is already poor. However, there are smokers, drinkers and gamblers a'plenty to the extent that there had been several suicides as a result of the losses.

Hope you are having a great day. It is the end of mine and about to turn the machine off.

Magnificent statue. There is so much deatil in it that I could spend hours sitting and studying it. I love the buildings in Budapest: they are massive and very detailed architecturally. Thank you for the wonderful photos. I'll be back!
