December Theme Day: Bridges

Here is Margit Hid, or Margaret Bridge, one of the bridges that connects Buda and Pest. What makes this bridge unique is in its name - in the middle of the river it also touches the tip of Margaret Island. You can walk, bike or ride a tram or bus onto the island. During the summer there are great lawns and ancient trees, flowers, fountain, fish pond, petting zoo, food stands where they even sell beer and benches for lovers and seniors and anyone in-between.

Please visit the other participants of the theme day by clicking on the links below:

Yes, a bit of the island can be seen on the left. Wiki has some lovely pix of Margaret Island, even a nice satellite view of it. It certainly is a wonderful place to visit. Lucky you guys! :)

Very nice bridge, but lots of congestion. Margaret Island sounds like a lovely place to visit during the summer.

Oswegan, I didn't know there was a Buda & Pest either.

It looks lovely this time of year, but I bet it's spectacular in the summertime...
(there are other bridges connecting Buda and Pest, right?)

Would love to see a summer and spring shot of this too. What a lovely photo. I also did not know there was a Buda and a Pest. I obviously need to study an atlas a little more. Thanks for providing info on your shots especially for an unseasoned traveler over here in the West.

Thank you for your visits and comments. Hyde DP - thank you for pointing us together.

Unfortunately, this was not the "best" bridge picture in an overall sense - however, I was visiting a friend who has this view from his window and simply could not resist.

Budapest, if you'll excuse my biased opinion, is a wonderful place to live - despite some not so wonderful aspects. (do you detect a love/hate relationship?)

Once upon a time there were actually 3 cities - Buda, O Buda (old Buda) on one side and Pest on the other. Not sure wether it was 110 or 125 years ago when these cities were brought together and became Budapest. As it happens everywhere, new constructions over time blended everything together but it is easier to distinguish Buda and Pest as they sit on opposite sides of the Danube.

There is no bad time to visit here it just depends on what you enjoy and when you have time: The spas are open year round and offer cure and relaxing even in some outdoor pools.

Naturally, there are the MANY wine regions (reds - Sopron, Szekszard, Eger to name a few and white: Tokaj, Badacsony, Etyek again to name only a few)

There is always music and festivals of some kind that are open to the public, regional festivals throughout the countryside.

If I've tempted you let me also offer you a personal tour in Budapest should you decide to make it a vacation plans :)
